CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2009 UPWARD BOUND AT USM DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

LOCAL UPWARD BOUND CHAPTER WINS AWARD

     Each year two national chapters are recognized for excellence by Scholarship America. One award is given to a chapter that has been in existence for more than three years and the other award is given to a young chapter (less than 3 years). The board of Upward Bound at USM Dollars for Scholars is very proud to announce that they are the winners of the 2006 Younger Chapter Golden Tassel Award for Excellence and have been awarded $1000 to be given to a graduating Upward Bound student.

     The common element in Dollars for Scholars chapters is community-based fundraising for scholarships awarded to local students. Beyond these scholarships, a growing number of Dollars for Scholars chapters now offer a variety of academic support programs connecting students and parents with resources in the community-from mentoring and tutoring programs to finding financial aid to securing grants and loans.

     The program mobilizes and unites local citizens and encourages local students to reach for and achieve their educational goals. Dollars for Scholars communities connect young people with caring and supportive adults; positive connections produce the high expectations and strong motivation that all students need to succeed in school.and in life.
